We are already back for quite some days now. Italy was just wonderful. A short but intensive trip with long days and a lot of walking.
The first day we went to the old town of Bergamo, on the top of the hill. We needed to take a small cable railway which went steep up. During that ride we got a beautiful view over the rest of the town. The old part really gives you the impression that you have gone back in time. Plenty of small old roads, very old buildings, and many small old-fashion shops.

We walked all day, enjoyed the atmosphere and found some of those typical restaurants where we had real Italian food. Though it was cold, we really enjoyed visiting this part of town. So much to see and so many impressions!

The other day we took the train to Milan. It was a longer walk to the train station than we thought and also getting tickets took a bit longer so we almost missed it: the doors where already closed... Luckily the guard saw us, and opened them again. The next train went only two hours later... Milan is a typical big city, with it's own charm
The public transport is fine, but the signs for where to go, are not as clear as for example in Paris or London. Still we managed to find our way to our goal: The ‘Duomo’... The big cathedral in the centre of Milan. Before we could enter we were checked with metal detectors and had to show the inside of our bags. It's really a huge cathedral and the inside is just as beautiful as the outside. Many colorful paintings, big glass in lead windows and big statues.

After our visit we just strolled around the streets and looked at al the shops, with their famous names. A lot of haute couture, but we also found for example this shop with only stuff from Ferrari (including a F1 car which was set up as a simulator). There were a couple of things that stroke us: it looks like every Italian has a scooter... you really see loads of them! Another thing (from which we were not really charmed) is the amount of women, wearing a fur coat. I don't know weather or not it is real fur, but have a suspicion that it is...
Our last day we spent in the 'new' part of Bergamo, We visited some local shops and supermarkets. Just looking around what they have. Of course we bought some real Italian salami and some cheese. I had to laugh when I found something Dutch in the supermarket: Beschuit (Dutch biscuit). It is something I haven't found here in Norway yet, and the last time my parents brought a roll with them. Yes.. we brought it, carefully in the hand luggage
Our apartment was really cozy, by the way. Old, middle age stile, with two rooms connected by an arch, and a separate bathroom. Our host brought us every morning a big breakfast on our room. We had a water cooker on the room with tea and coffee, but in the morning he also brought us real espresso... Wow... I can tell you: one zip and you are completely awake!!!
We arrived back home just in time. In Norway it had stopped snowing but in the north of Italy it started... I read that a lot of airports had to close down, including Bergamo airport...
So now we are back to normal live again. Geir Olav went back to work, and I find myself back searching for work. I didn't hear from the interview yet, and am assuming now that I didn't get the job
They were supposed to call last Friday. Knowing that they will take contact with the person that they want first, and handle off things before the call the others, I feel my chances are getting less with the minute... Somewhere I keep hoping that it is something else that delays them, but...
My dad changed his homepage... I think it has become really nice with loads of new pictures on the first page, a lot of jig saws that my mom made, and he also renewed the picture page from me. It's really worth to take a look!
Oh beautiful pics Mar! And it sounds like a truly wonderful & romantic trip
I'm sure those sights are something I'll never see
The places you went sound wonderful. I can imagine just spending a week in one place taking it all in - certainly revisiting some of those places. Lucky that you missed the snow!
WOW! Those pictures are SO COOL! I bet the spaghetti was yummy too!
