Last evening it started to snow again. Geir Olav wasn't home, and since I had to go to course today, I was prepared for some snow shuffling this morning before I left
They had said that I could again be quite a lot, but I wasn't quite prepared for what was waiting me... The first sign that I got that it had been heavy was waking up by a sms from Geir Olav, saying that it probably would be rough tour to school, since it had snowed heavy. I got up and looked still a bit sleepy through the window towards the garage... strange: I could see the roof stones: what had happened with the snow?
After getting dressed I took a better look: the snow from the roof had become so heavy that it had started to slide down. And yes: I could see that a new thick layer of snow was covering the path and stairs. And the snow kept falling. I decided to leave earlier, not knowing how much trouble I would end up in on my way to school and packed a pair of socks in my bag, since I didn't expect those to keep dry during the trip.
Yeah... that was what I thought, until I tried to open the door... It opened itself 10 cm and.... stopped! Like a rock was laying in front of it... I pushed and pushed; hit my shoulder and legs against it, but no movement at all. Ok what now?
I went down to see if I could get out through the basement: forget it! There was around a meter laying in front of those doors... I was locked into the house!!!
I called school and told them what was going on and that it wasn't possible for me to get out, and that Geir Olav wouldn't be here before six this afternoon. Obviously more people had problems, since they just started to laugh and didn't make a big problem of it.
Afterwards I started checking what exactly was going on. We had had a lot of snow before, but the door still opened. Upstairs I opened the door to where our veranda had been:
It appears that the snow heaps that had fallen down from the garage roof are the cause to this all. This wouldn't have happened if the veranda still had been standing (well... that one was so rotten that it might even had collapsed under the weight of the snow, so...). The veranda would have protected the front door from the falling snow. Now this snow couldn't find a way to go with all these blocks laying to close to the door.
I made a picture down, which might give an impression:

Now I just have to wait till my hero and rescuer comes home...
I just saw in the news that Oslo hadn't had this much snow in more than 20 years, and here fell more. Quite some households lost their power, because of trees not being able to keep up under the heavy snow, and falling on the electricity lines, breaking them. Hmmmm glad that that didn't happen here.
What worries me a little is the prediction that they expect more snow during the weekend. We have to wait and see. I have now a new appointment for tomorrow for an individual talk with my coordinator. Hopefully things will be a bit better by that time
Doncha just LOVE that wet, heavy snow? Makes it a little difficult getting out of the house......
